GhanaWeb wins Google News Initiative Innovation Challenge

Africa Business Communities reports that GhanaWeb has won the inaugural Google News Initiative (GNI) Innovation Challenge for its GhanaWeb Reporter project. Google gave away $1.93m in funding for media-related projects across Africa, the Middle East and Turkey through the GNI Innovation Challenge to help journalism grow in the digital age.

The GhanaWeb Reporter is a mobile application that allows GhanaWeb's visitors to publish or republish their user-generated content directly on www.ghanaweb.com, amplifying their voices on issues that matter to them. Google said the funding will help its partners to develop sustainable business models by diversifying revenue streams and increasing audience engagement.
