Local is lekker in May

May is a bumper month for local productions on M-Net, including 'Show Me The Mommy', ;Idols 3', a new late-night actuality show called 'Sex etc', and the South African version of Extreme Makeover called 'Star Maker Story'.

Oracle Airtime Sales says advertisers realise the value of an association with Idols and there has been even more interest this year, with Oracle trying a fresh approach towards sponsorships for the third season. The focus will be on the real-life stories of the contestants. Negotiations are currently underway with potential venue, clothing and vehicle sponsors, amongst others. Oracle is also looking at association-type deals.

Sex etc is new territory for M-Net, as the show aims to tackle topics of sexual health in an engaging and intelligent way. It is presented by former Big Brother host Mark Pilgrim and features case studies and in-studio panel discussions.

Viewers will be able to ask topic-related questions on www.health24.com, which will be answered by well-know 'sexpert' Dr Elna Mackintosh. This is an important component of the show, which enables viewers to seek help. Headline sponsor for the show is Bayer Healthcare.

Carl Fischer, Director of M-Net Local Productions, says: "Star Maker Story is a unique makeover show. We're hoping to change people's lives for the better, but also give them the chance to take charge of their future with an Egoli contract."

Ten contestants will be competing for a one year contract with the popular soapie, once their transformation is complete. Only two will be chosen. The show is sponsored by Teljoy (headline sponsor), Truworths, Morningside Medi-Clinic (surgery sponsor), Planet Fitness, Franz Marx Films and Drum/You/Huisgenoot.
