Multiple marketing platforms for TV series

Curious Pictures is using a range of digital-media platforms to support the marketing of the television series Hopeville. Interactive initiatives, produced in-house, have been placed on a variety of platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, MXit and Admob.

Hopeville, a mini-series broadcast on SABC2 on Tuesdays at 7.30pm, tells the story of an alcoholic father, who, in an attempt to win back the love of his son, tries to fix up a swimming pool whilst contending with a corrupt municipality and an apathetic community.

The interactive arm of the Hopeville series encourages viewers to view and interact with content from the mini series. In addition to promoting the series, the interactive campaign includes 12 viral clips in which local popular comedians surprise ordinary people by doing “good for change”, as an example to get ordinary people to follow suit.

“Using digital and interactive media is a cost-effective and vital arm in any marketing campaign” said Devon Brough, head of Curious Pictures' interactive division.

Logging onto the Hopeville mobi site, or the Facebook group, also gives access to a range of free content downloads, such as ring tones, wallpapers, promos and the comedy viral clips.
