Machine Minder

• Set up and operate sheet fed printing press, to print single and multi-colour copy from litho plates. Examine job to determine operating time, quantity to be printed and stock specifications.
• Checks work ticket for any special instructions.
• Installs and locks plate/s into position, using hand tools, to achieve pressure required for printing.
• Measure plate thickness and insert packing sheets on plate cylinder to build up plate/s to printing height.
• Fills ink and dampening solution fountains, and adjusts controls to regulate flow of ink and dampening solution to plate cylinder.
• Removes and cleans plate/s and cylinders.
• Check correct paper and ink.
• Loads paper into feeder, adjusts feeder and delivery mechanisms and unloads printed material from delivery mechanism.
• Applies packing sheets to blanket cylinder to build up blanket thickness to diameter of plate cylinder.
• Washes plate to remove protective gum coating.
• Measures paper thickness and adjusts space between blanket and impression cylinders according to thickness of paper stock.
• Correct make ready procedure to set up press to obtain correct fit/register, ink/water balance, ink feed, ink coverage to match proof.
• Makes adjustments to press throughout production run to maintain specific registration and colour density.
• Run press at optimum speed and maintain colour/ink densities using the densitometer, with minimum paper waste.
• Starts press and examines printed copy for ink density, position on paper and registration.
• Also check copy against passed proof and specification sheets.
• Job to be checked for reading and colour before printing job.
• Any non conformity to be reported to the Supervisor.
• Machine minder to clean and maintain machine in working order, any major faults to be written up on board and reported to the Works Manager and or Director
