    Role Overview

    We’re looking for a senior account leader with 7–10 years of agency leadership experience to oversee a high-impact client services portfolio and team.


    The Account Management Director is responsible for leading a team of 6–7 Account Managers and stewarding a US client portfolio. This role ensures outstanding service delivery, drives strategic account growth, and champions operational excellence while developing the next generation of account leaders.

    As a senior leader, you’ll collaborate directly with U.S. and global executives, shaping client strategy across multiple industries and contributing to both regional business growth and global account excellence.

    This is not an Account Manager role. It’s a strategic leadership position requiring proven experience in scaling account portfolios, influencing C-level stakeholders, and aligning cross-functional teams to deliver measurable client impact.

    Key responsibilities team leadership and management
    • Direct and develop a team of 6–7 Account Managers, with full responsibility for performance, growth, and succession planning.
    • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning to build future leaders.
    • Set and monitor KPIs aligned with client satisfaction, team utilisation, revenue growth, and account health.
    • Foster a positive, accountable, and feedback-driven team culture that emphasises high performance.
    • Accountable for retention and revenue growth across a multimillion-dollar portfolio of client accounts.
    Client Services and strategic account management
    • Oversee and ensure excellence in client service delivery, stepping in at an executive level when needed.
    • Act as the senior escalation point for complex client issues, ensuring swift resolution and client confidence.
    • Lead strategic account planning sessions for key accounts, ensuring alignment with client business goals and internal delivery capacity.
    • Own renewal, retention, and upsell targets across the team’s portfolio, directly influencing agency revenue growth.
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders, guiding high-level decision-making.

    process, budget and operational oversight
    • Ensure consistent use of tools, systems, and processes across the South Africa AM team.
    • Track and report on account-level budgets, performance metrics, and profitability.
    • Identify inefficiencies or blockers and propose process improvements.
    • Lead training and onboarding programs for new Account Managers.
    • Support the global client services team's roll-out of new processes, systems, or initiatives.
    Collaboration and communication
    • Serve as the key point of contact between the South Africa AM team and global Client Services leadership.
    • Collaborate closely with the Director of Client Engagement to ensure alignment on client strategy, escalation protocols, and team-wide initiatives.
    • Work in partnership with the Director of Operations to ensure Account Managers are equipped with the right tools, systems, and workflows to operate efficiently.
    • Coordinate with the VP of Delivery to align client expectations with delivery team capacity, sprint planning, and execution timelines.
    • Lead and participate in cross-functional initiatives to support strategic goals, improve delivery coordination, and drive client value.
    • Participate in global client services leadership meetings to represent regional insights and needs.

    People and culture champion
    • Promote alignment with company values and contribute to culture initiatives across the South Africa account management team.
    • Support and contribute to building an inclusive, high-performing environment.

    Requirements

    Experience
    • 7–10 years of client services, account management, or related experience, with a proven record of driving measurable client outcomes.
    • 5+ years of people leadership experience, including managing other managers and developing senior client services professionals.
    • Significant experience within a marketing, advertising, or digital agency leadership role.
    • Demonstrated success managing B2B client relationships and strategic planning at the senior stakeholder or C-level, ideally in SaaS, tech, digital marketing, or agency environments.
    • Proven ability to oversee budgets, own commercial KPIs, and drive client-facing revenue accountability across a multimillion-dollar portfolio.
    • Strong track record of cross-functional collaboration within matrixed organisations.

    Tools and tech
    • Proficiency with CRM and account management tools (e.g., HubSpot, Harvest, Asana, etc.).
    • Familiarity with productivity and collaboration platforms (e.g., Slack, Google Workspace).

    Not a fit if:
    • You have only managed one or two direct reports and lack experience developing managers.
    • You have not held a leadership role in a marketing, advertising, or digital agency environment
    • You are looking for an individual contributor role rather than leading a team and influencing strategy.
    Working Hours
    This role will require partial overlap with U.S. time zones for leadership and cross-functional syncs.
