Motaung appointed as company secretary at Ubank

Ubank has announced the appointment of Nohlanga Motaung as the company secretary and legal executive effective from 1 May 2013.

Luthando Vutula, CEO at Ubank said they are thrilled that Motaung is joining the Ubank financial services provider. "Her past governance and legal experiences will help guide the bank in continuing its efforts towards being, and remaining a good corporate citizen through adherence to good governance principles, complying with all relevant statutes, policies and sound legal practices."

Past experience

Motaung has served on several board and management committees in different organisations and currently serves as a director of the Bheki Mlangeni Foundation. She established her own law firm Silwana Gqwede Attorneys in 2002. Prior to joining Ubank, Motaung worked for the Law Society of South Africa and was the Company Secretary and Legal Manager at organisations like the Gauteng Film Commission, Gauteng Economic Development Agency (GEDA), and the South African National Blood Service.

She obtained her law degree in 1995 from the Walter Sisulu University (University of Transkei), and in 1998 was admitted as an attorney at the High Court of South Africa in Umtata. In 2000 Motaung also attended the Academy of American and International Law at the South Western Legal Foundation in Dallas, Texas. She also has a certificate in Corporate Governance from the University of Johannesburg.
