Free enterprise student competition to select winning team

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) South Africa will host its annual competition, 5-6 August 2010, at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg, Gauteng, where students from 25 South African universities will present the entrepreneurial and socio-economic projects they have developed and implemented in their respective communities.

The selected national champion will represent South Africa at the SIFE World Cup event in Los Angeles from 10-12 October 2010, where it will compete against winning teams from 40 countries for the World Cup title.

Student teams challenged to develop community outreach projects

SIFE is a global non-profit organisation active in more than 40 countries and funded by financial contributions from corporations, entrepreneurs, foundations, government agencies and individuals. Working in partnership with business and higher education, it establishes student teams on university campuses. Faculty advisors lead these teams and they are challenged to develop community outreach projects that reach its five educational topics: Market Economics, Success Skills, Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy and Business Ethics.

    Identifying tomorrow's leaders

Participating students form teams on their university campuses and apply business concepts to develop outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. This initiative not only uplifts the communities but also identifies the leaders of tomorrow.

South Africa is still considered a developing country and for this reason leadership training and development is of vital importance to ensuring that future leaders are built and mentored. By investing in youth and developing their understanding of the corporate marketplace, the academic institutions ensure that they become socially responsible business leaders and are able to drive the business landscape forward responsibly.
