International designer supports RedCap Foundation

First stop on English fashion designer Henry Holland's South African itinerary was a visit to the St Christopher's School in KwaDukuza, where he not only chatted to some of the pupils and had a peek into their school days, but handed over a mobile library and PE kits for each child to HOD Foundation Phase, Lorraine Kaunda.

In return, he was presented with art work and beautiful bracelets, made by some of the children at St Christopher's; he immediately put them on his arm and wore them for the rest of the day.

Henry Holland, who is notorious for his edgy tees, has collaborated with Mr Price to create an exclusive limited edition t-shirt range.

Up until now, Henry Holland has designed with a "London girl aesthetic", inspired by the eclectic attitudes, cultures and mindsets that permeate the British capital. This designer range of tees will be in Mr Price stores from 23 November, has been inspired by some of his most iconic runway collections but there's one marked difference. R10 from each limited edition t-shirt sold will go the RedCap schools project - an initiative that partners with and empowers schools to improve the educational experiences of young South Africans.

"I was really drawn to this project when the guys at Mr Price told me about the hook up with the RedCap Foundation. The fact that we can donate funds to this charity through our fashion collection is a brilliant idea. I hope we can make a difference to these kids' lives through this collaboration," Henry Holland said.

St Christopher Primary, one of the RedCap Schools, is located in the Sakhamkhanya area, near Stanger north of KZN. The school has an enrolment of 940 children between five and 14 from Grade R to Grade 7. This school boasts an improved academic performance since the start of the RedCap project.

Head of the RedCap Foundation, Natasja Ambrosio, said all involved in the RedCap Schools Project welcomed this special opportunity to introduce an international fashion icon like Henry Holland to St Christopher Primary, in particular, and to the RedCap Schools project as a whole.

"We are very excited about Mr Price's project with Henry Holland which will benefit not only the RedCap Foundation but the children of South Africa who are the recipients of our initiatives. The funds raised will allow us to impact and transform the lives of more children and youth in many ways," she said.

The RedCap Foundation was established in 2006 as a registered non- profit and public benefit organization. "We have a vision of a South Africa where young people create social change by being inspired, healthy and engaged citizens. We have already made a positive impact in the lives of more than 200 000 children. We are working hard to help our young people to realise their full potential," Ambrosio explained.

The RedCap Schools project, which was launched two years ago, focuses on fostering whole school development. Ambrosio said that, amongst other things, when assessing the needs of these schools, it became apparent that they needed books. Because they have very little space to accommodate big libraries, a mobile library was the best option. The mobile library for intermediate phase learners presented today by Henry Holland is part of literacy development in this ongoing initiative.
