Another big win for SA small business publication

Words’worth Publishing’s Small Capital has won a 2006 Gold Quill Award of Merit from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). This is the second Gold Quill award won by Words’worth in just three years, and one of a string of awards garnered by this practical guide for business owners since its launch in March 2005.

Small Capital, a quarterly publication produced on behalf of MWeb Business, Standard Bank, Microsoft South Africa and Cisco Systems, is one of four South African entries that were honoured in this year's competition, which pitted local talent against more than 1170 entries from 27 other countries around the world. Of these, only 129 entries received awards.

Says Words'worth managing member, Ingrid Staude-Griesel, "The huge demand for copies of Small Capital - both from the general public and from various development agencies - is evidence of the need for practical information and advice for entrepreneurs within [the SMME] sector. With a circulation of close to 200 000 copies, Small Capital has proved itself a highly sought-after value-adding tool."

    Providing guidelines

According to Words'worth senior content manager, Sophia Dower, the publication is specifically designed to provide concise, easy-to-read guidelines for anyone wanting to start or grow a small or medium business.

Small Capital is currently distributed free of charge through Standard Bank branches and via targeted mailings to existing and potential clients of MWEB Business, Microsoft and Cisco Systems. Copies are also distributed through the Business Day Real Business supplement, as well as to various SETAs, training and skills development organisations, and to the general public on a subscription basis.

IABC's Gold Quill Awards programme has been the hallmark of excellence in global business communication for more than 35 years. The winners represent the best in organisational communication and will be honoured at the Gold Quill Awards Gala on 5 June 2006 at IABC's annual International Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia.
