The 2011 Loeries judging week opens on Tuesday 5 July with a seminar, where three international jury chairmen will speak, followed by the panels reviewing the increased entries submitted for the eight categories.

With the new categories organised primarily by media focus, the biggest category is Print Communication with 600 entries; followed by Television, Film & Video Communication (542); Radio (427); Communication Design (355); Internet, Mobile & Interactive (224); Outdoor, Street-Pole, Ambient & Alternative Media (157); Direct & PR Communication (99); and Live Events, Activations & Sponsorship (59).

"It's really good to see that we have had a small increase in entries, considering that the last two years have shown a year-on-year decline of between 6-8%. I hope this is another sign that the overall economy is recovering," says CEO of the Loerie Awards, Andrew Human.

"What many people don't realise is that judging almost 3000 entries is a large logistical exercise, involving five international chairmen, over 130 judges and an IT infrastructure and support from several key partners.

"Lasernet provides a microwave link to upload electronic media, Arc Telecoms provides a broadband link to the servers, which are hosted in Cape Town by Hetzner, Think iT install a wireless network, Ornico provide a playback system for the electronic media and Media Film Services provide power backup for the entire venue.

"Our international and out-of-town judges stay at the Southern Sun Hyde Park Sandton; Vega and the Design School provide the venue and Gearhouse installs additional AV equipment. We could never achieve this without so much onsite support."

Finalists will be announced at the end of judging week and the winners will be announced at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) during the Festival Weekend 16-18 September 2011.
