Safrea is honoured to count SASJA among its valued member organisations and congratulates the dedicated team behind this landmark event. In particular, Safrea extends warm recognition to Mandi Smallhorne, SASJA president and former conference director, and Engela Duvenage, current conference director, whose leadership and commitment helped bring WCSJ2025 to African soil.

“This is a proud moment for South Africa’s science journalism community,” said Safrea chair, Nathi Gule. “SASJA’s achievement in hosting this global conference demonstrates the strength, professionalism, and significance of science reporting in our country. WCSJ2025 not only places South Africa on the world stage, but also highlights the essential role journalists play in making science accessible, accurate, and meaningful for the public.”

WCSJ2025 will feature world-class keynote sessions, workshops, and field trips showcasing South Africa’s rich scientific innovation, research excellence, and biodiversity.

Safrea wishes SASJA every success as the conference unfolds and celebrates this milestone for African science journalism.
