Already part of a global network spanning cities including New York, Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam and Dubai, the attraction expands on South Africa’s growing appetite for experiential entertainment, with existing locations in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Founded in Zagreb in 2015, the Museum of Illusions is known for combining science, art and entertainment through hands-on, perception-based installations designed to challenge how visitors interpret reality.

More than 60 immersive exhibits

At the heart of the Durban attraction is a collection of over 60 exhibits designed to entertain, confuse and engage.

Visitors will move through a series of illusion rooms and interactive spaces, including the Tilted Room, where gravity appears to shift, the Vortex Tunnel, which disrupts balance and orientation, and the Reverse Room, which flips perspective entirely.

Hands-on installations such as the Cloning Table, Head on a Platter and Beuchet Chair allow guests to become part of the illusion, while optical displays, holograms and visual puzzles explore how perception can be easily deceived.

“We’re incredibly excited to finally open the doors of the Museum of Illusions in Durban. A visit is an experience designed to spark curiosity, wonder, and a little healthy confusion,” says Mark Collie, owner of Museum of Illusions South Africa.

“Our exhibitions prove that seeing is not always believing, and we can’t wait for visitors to laugh, marvel, and leave with a completely new perspective on reality.”

Designed for all ages and occasions

Built around an “edutainment” concept, the museum blends learning with interactive play, appealing to families, tourists, school groups, corporate teams and content creators alike.

The attraction also positions itself as a flexible events space, catering for birthdays, educational trips and group experiences.

With strong interest ahead of opening, visitors are encouraged to book in advance to secure entry.

The museum will operate seven days a week, with extended trading hours over weekends and public holidays.
