The collaboration positions Capitec at the centre of one of South Africa’s fastest-growing cultural events, bringing together fans of anime, gaming, cosplay, collectibles and pop culture under one immersive platform.

A strategic move into experience-led engagement

Comic Con has evolved into more than a fan convention — it is a community-driven cultural platform that attracts thousands of attendees each year. For Capitec, the partnership reflects a broader shift in how brands engage audiences, moving beyond transactional relationships into shared experiences.

According to show director, Carla Massmann, the alignment between the two brands lies in accessibility and inclusivity. The partnership aims to create personalised, meaningful experiences for fans, reinforcing Comic Con’s positioning as a space where everyone can participate and belong.

Enhancing access and value for fans

A key feature of the partnership is the introduction of the Capitec Super Fan Pass, designed to enhance the event experience through added convenience and exclusivity. Benefits include early access to the show floor, priority entry lanes, parking access and discounted celebrity photo opportunities.

In addition, Capitec clients will receive 20% discounts on tickets, reinforcing the bank’s focus on making lifestyle experiences more accessible and affordable.

Asha Patel, head of brand and communications at Capitec, notes that the partnership is rooted in shared values of simplicity, inclusion and connection — extending the bank’s value proposition beyond financial services into everyday moments that matter to customers.

Key dates for 2026

Comic Con Cape Town: 30 April – 3 May 2026

Comic Con Johannesburg: 24 – 27 September 2026

Retail, rewards and the rise of experience ecosystems

Beyond ticketing perks, the partnership will extend into the show floor, where Capitec will collaborate with exhibitors to offer exclusive deals and interactive experiences. Integration with the Capitec Rewards platform further signals how financial services are increasingly intersecting with retail, entertainment and loyalty ecosystems.

This reflects a broader industry trend: brands are building ecosystems that combine access, rewards and experiences to deepen customer relationships and drive engagement.

As consumer expectations shift toward connection, community and memorable experiences, partnerships like this highlight how non-traditional players are entering cultural spaces to remain relevant.

For Capitec, Comic Con offers more than visibility — it provides a platform to engage a diverse, digitally savvy audience in an environment defined by passion and participation.
