Country Hotels expands portfolio with hotel in Namaqualand

Country Hotels has added a new 87-roomed hotel in Springbok, Northern Cape, to be completed soon. According to the CEO of Country Hotels, Andre Thirion this is a great time to be in the local travel business.

"For South Africa, this is a golden age of travel, especially in light of the global economic slowdown. Travel enthusiasts that need to escape the hustle and bustle of city living will find our country has much to offer, especially in the largely untouched Cape to Namibia route.”

Located in Namaqualand’s largest mining town 570km north of Cape Town, The Springbok Inn is within striking distance of Namibia and sits among popular nature reserves. The new hotel will bring the Country Hotels room offering to a total of 320 rooms across nine properties that range from a historic hotel in Calvinia to a luxury villa in Plettenberg Bay, and includes a picturesque lodge and campsite on the Orange River.

The Namaqualand is popular with both local and international tourists, especially during the springtime flowering season when the area becomes covered with a kaleidoscope of colour. Known as the Namaqualand daisy season, orange and white daisies as well as hundreds of other flowering species spring up from a seemingly barren landscape. Travellers using the Springbok Inn as a base can easily reach the Richtersveld, a national park and World Heritage Site, as well as the Namaqua National Park and the Goegap Nature Reserve to experience this natural display of colours.

The Springbok Inn will have a large swimming pool area with an adjacent bar and lounge for summer evenings and drinks after a work conference. There will also be a fully equipped conference and training facility that can be divided into two separate venues. In addition, there are four meeting rooms for training groups, seminars or boardroom style meetings.

The restaurant will serve breakfast, light refreshments, lunch and dinner for in-house guests, visitors, delegates or travellers making their way through the town. Each room will be fully equipped with flat-screen TVs, air conditioning, stylish furniture and full-suite bathrooms.
