Samsung fights Apple in Australia, Germany

Samsung Electronics has filed a counter-claim against Apple in Australia alleging that Apple has infringed its wireless patents on the iPhone and iPad after the launch of Samsung's Galaxy tablet was delayed because of a global patent dispute.

Meanwhile Samsung has filed an appeal against a German court's ban on sales of its Galaxy tablet in Europe, deepening disputes between the two companies over smartphone technologies used in competing devices.

Apple succeeded in getting the German court to put a ban on sales of the Galaxy tablet because of the alleged patent infringements. Apple and Samsung have been embroiled in a global battle over market share for phones and tablet computers.
In Germany sales of the Galaxy 10.1 were halted last month and this was followed by a ban on sales of the smaller Galaxy 7.7.

In Australia, Samsung alleges that Apple has infringed seven of its patents relating to wireless communications standards used by the iPhone 3G, the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2.

Samsung has also instituted court proceedings against Apple in South Korea, Japan and Germany.
