SATMA Awards 2013, a world-class event

This year, a concerted effort between the SATMA Awards team, the Eastern Cape government, the National Heritage Council and the SABC was put into ensuring that discrepancies that were experienced last year were completely avoided to pave the way for a seamless showcasing of a world-class event.

This year the awards took place on 4-5 October 2013 at the Buffalo Park Cricket Stadium in East London with a bigger venue, which could accommodate more than 5,000 guests, including the President of the Republic as well as many other VIPs and important guests from across the country, said judge Vuka Shabalala, the SATMA Awards Foundation president.

It is very important for people to note that the SATMA Awards was founded on the principles of unity in diversity. Therefore, they should always ensure that they do not use the SATMA Awards as a divisive instrument that separates them, but rather something that unites and showcases more of their similarities than their differences.

The objective of these awards is to provide an environment where our people can sing, dance and eat together as a nation of Africans as a whole regardless of who wins. We therefore request as many people as possible to head to East London to be part of this prestigious event, which has always been the highlight of our heritage month in celebration of our unique diversity, said SATMA Awards founder, Dumisani Goba.

An increased level of interest

"We have witnessed and also noted an improved level of planning for this year's SATMA Awards. We have also noticed an increased level of interest shown by our voters as we have for the first time in the history of SATMA Awards received more than 1.5 million votes. We have also for the first time in the history of traditional music awards introduced vehicles as prizes in some of the categories" said the CEO, Nyami Sotomela.

This year there were three cars to be won, which include a Citroen eight-seater for the Song of the Year category, Citroen DS3 for the Best Traditional Music DJ of the Year category for SABC radio stations and, as a grand prize, a brand new Citroen C1 for the best voter.
