The Phantom of the Opera's run extended as records are broken

With more than 200 000 tickets being issued since 31 January 2012, The Phantom of the Opera's run has been extended for the fourth and final time to 3 June at the Teatro at Montecasino.

"The love story is magnificent, the music is glorious and completely captivating, the costumes are absolutely spectacular, the set is sumptuous to say the least, and the cast is breathtaking," said Bryan Hill, GM of the Teatro at Montecasino. "It's a show that deserves the overwhelming response it's getting - and yet it's a response that is beyond our wildest expectations."

The full-scale South African production has just been extended for the fourth time and is running at an overall occupancy of 78 percent. "This is the first production where we have seen daily ticket sales of over 2000 tickets sold; we usually average about 1000 on a blockbuster production," added Hill.

SA award winners

The South African production of The Phantom of the Opera recently won acclaim at the 47th annual Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards held at the Baxter Theatre on 18 March, when actor and singer Jonathan Roxmouth won the award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical/Musical Theatre for his role as Phantom, Robin Botha won Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical/Musical Theatre for her role as Christine, and Angela Kilian won Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Musical/Musical Theatre for her role as Madame Giry.
