Parys to show off flower power at the Free State Flower Festival

The second annual Free State Flower Festival will be held in Parys on 24-25 November 2017. Five-hundred dancers from various districts are preparing to perform and the town of Parys is dressing up for the upcoming occasion.

The Free State Flower Festival is a joint venture between the governments of the Free State and Madeira in Portugal. Madeira President Miguel Albuquerque and Free State Premier Ace Magashule will be in attendance at this year’s event. This year, design experts led by Joao Rodrigues from Madeira will also design the floral floats.

Thirty-thousand visitors from all over the world streamed into the little town of Parys for two days, last November. There were several performers, floats, giant flower puppets, fireworks, theatre performances, exhibitions, stalls, workshops, conferences, an amazing floral storytelling precinct, and masses of flowers.

The Free State Gambling Liquor and Tourism Authority CEO Kenny Dichabe says, “It was truly a landmark event - and not just for Parys, or even just for the Free State as a well-established farming and tourism region, but for our entire country as well.”

The second Free State Flower Festival is set to be a surge of entertainment, floral displays, and a music concert featuring local artists. The festival will also feature the Palesa Parade, a 1km flower parade through Bree Street. The parade will showcase fairy-tale-like floral floats, hundreds and hundreds of choreographed performers in floral outfits.
