Four wine estates to visit this Christmas

Cybercellar.com has put together a list of Cape wine estates opening their doors this Christmas Eve and Day.

Grande Provence

This luxury estate has breathtaking views of the Franschhoek Mountains. On both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, patrons can book for a four-course feast and admire the popular art in the Sculpture Garden and gallery. Starters and entrées range from cold-smoked Angus beef tartar, saffron-cured burrata, beetroot-cured local trout or BBQ langoustine. Main course is either the braised Karoo lamb neck or seared local cob. The dessert is a caramelised white chocolate pot au crème served with an aerated vanilla sponge, hazelnut crémeux, salted caramel popcorn and rose caviar, or summer berries and handmade chocolate.

The cost of the Christmas lunch is R1,175 per person, whilst dinner is R1,590 per person. Both meals include a handmade Christmas cracker, a glass of Grande Provence wine and canapés on arrival. Dinner will certainly come with a few additional festive surprises.

The Bakery at Jordan

With sweeping views of Stellenbosch surrounding the estate, Jordan estate offers a family feast at The Bakery. Freshly baked wood-fired breads will first be served with a selection of dips and olives plucked at the estate. The main meal will be a choice of either slow roasted lamb, gammon cooked in a delicious veggie brine or a classic roast chicken. The traditional spread of vegetables, stuffing, gravy, roast potatoes and salad will be served with the meal. For dessert, there will be warm apple tarts with custard, cream or ice-cream. This hearty Christmas lunch goes for R350 per person. Bottles of wine will be on sale to pair with the meal.

Cavalli

The Cavalli Estate, situated just outside Stellenbosch, is renowned for its impeccable wine, cuisine, design, architecture, indigenous landscaping and art. This year, the estate is offering a Christmas Eve dinner as well as lunch on the day. For R850, the lunch will consist of six courses as well as a welcome signature Cavalli cocktail. A bottle of their famous Warlord is recommended to accompany this decadent feast.

Giovanni at Eikendaal

This estate, located at the base of the Helderberg range, is packed with activities and things to see and do. The estate offers wine tastings, vineyard tours and is even a cheetah sanctuary. If you are looking for something on Christmas Eve you have found your destination. This is a family affair with a three-course set menu for dinner, welcome drinks and aperitif. A Bedouin tent will be erected on Christmas Eve and live entertainment will be provided by Danielle Bitton, who will be singing a mix of Jazz, Pop and Christmas songs.
