Eskom in R56m Ventyx SCADA implementation

According to Metering website, South African electricity public utility Eskom is to undertake what will be the largest implementation in Africa of Ventyx's supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) distribution management system for real time network monitoring and control of electric power operations.

Eskom will also deploy the Ventyx Equipment Reliability solution in its Koeberg nuclear power station, the only nuclear power plant in Africa.

Ventyx, an ABB company, is a global enterprise software and service partner for the world's essential industries. Ventyx products are designed to help improving performance within power generation, transmission and distribution operations. The two software license agreements are worth over R56m.

According to Johan Engelbrecht, sales director Africa at Ventyx, the new contract represents a significant expansion of Ventyx's involvement with Eskom. "With an increasingly urban population, demand for electricity in Africa is rising fast," Engelbrecht said, adding that this increases pressure on utilities to make sure power is available for provision on demand. "Ventyx network management and equipment reliability solutions help utilities reduce operating and maintenance costs while improving reliability of service," he told Metering website.
