Marikana Commission moves to Centurion

PRETORIA: The Marikana Commission of Inquiry will be moved to Centurion from Monday, 3 June 2013.

The decision was reached following consultation with Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Jeff Radebe.

The application for the move was submitted by Advocate Dali Mpofu, who is representing the miners.

He argued that the move would help to curb costs such as accommodation and travel of legal teams not funded by government.

The inquiry was established by President Jacob Zuma to investigate the events from 9-16 August 2012, which led to the deaths of at least 44 people, more than 70 people being injured and approximately 250 people being arrested in Marikana.
