The annual Franschhoek Uncorked festival, running this weekend (10 - 11 October 2009) offers unlimited wine tastings at 24 participating wineries with a R60 access card. Also famous for its food, the festival will offer treats to tantalize the taste buds.

“Key to the success of Franschhoek Uncorked is that we use the weekend to unveil vintages of sought-after wines or do things that are just different,” says Jenny Prinsloo, CEO of Franschhoek Wine Valley and Tourist Association.

These include visitor photography amid an array of wine props in the barn of Mont Rochelle Mountain Vineyards; Lynx Wines going Spanish with live flamenco music and tapas; Allée Bleue hosting an arts and crafts market and the Uncorked party with live music on Saturday evening.

Cabrière will also be one of the many venues offering live music and something completely different with the Pierre Jourdan strongest throwing arm competition. The estate will be also be releasing the its Haute Cabrière Chardonnay/Pinot Noir 2009. Boekenhoutskloof will be releasing its much-anticipated Chocolate Block 2008.

A shuttle service will transport visitors between the wineries, including boutique wineries nestled against the mountain slopes in what is regarded as one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world. Participating wineries will be open from 9am - 5pm with some evening events.
