Physical assets management award to City of Cape Town

The City of Cape Town - Technical Support Services - Electrical Support Services was the overall winner and gold award winner at the annual Pragma Awards function held this week at the Birchwood Conference Centre in Gauteng. The awards are for exceptional physical asset management practices, assessed for their asset management maturity against Pragma's Asset Management Improvement Planning (AMIP) methodology.

Silver awards were given to the City of Cape Town - Technical Support Services - Fleet Management & Maintenance Services, Shell SA Marketing - Retail, as well as AES Tietê.

In the bronze category, awards were handed to the eThekwini Municipality Electricity Unit HV Department, eThekwini Municipality Electricity Unit MV/LV Department, Meadow Feeds Pietermaritzburg, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Energy Department, Fresenius Kabi Manufacturing SA (Pty) Ltd in Port Elizabeth and Samarco Mineração.

"We're delighted with the level of entries this year," says Adriaan Scheeres, CEO of Pragma.

"Managing operational assets to be a competitive advantage for companies is a hot topic amongst top management these days, and has been elevated by the current economic climate. In response to this challenge, the company launched the awards programme to enable enterprises to measure their current management practices against the soon to be released industry standard - the ISO 55 000. This allows companies to protect their asset base against deterioration and ensure that assets perform optimally resulting in maximum output and service delivery. As an added benefit, the company benchmarks companies against each other, which gives investors and consumers' confidence that the companies they deal with have a solid asset base."
