New awards for innovation in F&B

An awards programme dedicated to recognising innovation in the food, beverage and associated lifestyle industries in South Africa has been launched by The Good Food & Wine Show in partnership with Product of the Year.

The Good Food & Wine Show Product Awards are open to any manufacturer of a food, beverage or associated lifestyle product which has been introduced to the market in the last 12 months. All products will be on display in the product of the year pavilion at the show and consumers will be able to give their feedback on the products showcased from 24-26 September 2010.

Products should demonstrate innovation in areas such as design, function, packaging or marketing. Entrants can submit as many products in as many different categories as they wish.

Each category winner will receive R350 000 worth of Nielson's research in accordance with Product of the Year guidelines and, if they are in the food or beverage sector, they will receive a guaranteed listing in Pick n Pay's flagship store, Pick n Pay on Nicol, opening in October 2010. In addition, the Grand Prix winner will receive a complimentary exhibition stand at the Gauteng Good Food & Wine Show 2011, valued at R75 000.

MD of Product of the Year, Preetesh Sewraj said he believed that the Good Food & Wine Show was the perfect platform to showcase Product of the Year to consumers and trade. Product of the Year is inviting its 2010 Product of the Year award winners to be an integral part of this pavilion, encouraging them to exhibit their winning products around the awards display.

Louise Cashmore, marketing director of the Good Food & Wine Shows said that she was delighted to be able to recognise and reward innovation in South Africa. "This association with Product of the Year will ensure that world standards are met in the judging criteria and that this awards programme opens doors for South African producers in the United Kingdom and Europe where it has been successfully recognising products that are leading the way in innovation for the past two decades," she said.
