    New Design> magazine targets education

Design> Information has launched a new free subscription web-based publication last week entitled Design> Education (Ed>). It is targeted at high school learners, teachers, tertiary students, lecturers and parents with an interest in design.
    New Design> magazine targets education

The launch edition focuses on the entire range of design disciplines and features interviews with industry trailblazers; insights into new trends and technologies; showcases of new talent; and overviews of the best the design professions have to offer, with features on awards, teaching guides and more.

Highlights include a preview of the soon-to-be-released The Parlotones music video, Stars Fall Down, designed by Lung Animation. Readers can click through to see a variety of the-making-of clips. Ed> also offers a look at the conceptual design behind the blockbuster movie, District 9's inhuman and disgusting aliens and an interview with the young designers of DesignFaktorii on sustainable product design.

According to Design>'s group editor, Jacques Lange, it aims to equip and inform a future generation of designers about the challenges and responsibilities they face in a technology-driven world where there is increasing pressure to design a better future and to serve humankind. It aims to highlight how design can create massive change and new possibilities.

Future issues could feature African continent

Sune Stassen, independent design education activist is the editor and says that although the launch edition focuses on the South African design environment, it is envisaged that future editions will be more inclusive to include substantial contributions from the rest of the African continent and other parts of the world.

Publisher, Cameron Bramley, concludes that it is not just another design magazine but positioned to inspire talented young minds to pursue careers in design, convince parents to support their kids in design, empower art and design teachers with relevant teaching resources and solicit greater respect for the profession amongst career guidance teachers, school principals and education administrators.
