Job description

Job purpose

A broadcast engineer plays an integral role in the radio industry, where they will be responsible for keeping scheduled broadcasts running, setting up live broadcasts in the field or studio, maintaining and updating broadcasting hardware and software, and addressing broadcasting problems as they arise.

Key responsibilities
  • Managing day to day operations of the station ensuring that the broadcasts runs smoothly and that administrative duties are performed correctly.
  • Liaising with managerial staff and other colleagues to determine technical support required.
  • Maintaining specialist equipment for production, broadcast and satellite transmission, and interactive media.
  • Setting up and monitoring audio links between units in different locations.
  • Setting up and operating equipment and transmission links during outside broadcasts.
  • Designing and installing custom audio circuits and manufacturing new circuits, hardware, and systems.
  • Required from time to time to participate in departmental initiatives that require their knowledge and expertise.
  • Repairing hardware, software, and other broadcast technology systems.
  • Keeping abreast of constant changes in technology by investigating new systems, techniques, and equipment - especially new internet technologies.
  • Making decisions and solve problems by analysing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution.
  • Repairing equipment (mics, headset)
  • Sourcing for technical quotations when the need arises.
Education:
  • Minimum diploma in IT or Equivalent
  • CompTIA : A+, N+, sound engineering or equivalent is required
Experience
  • 3 years’ experience in working in radio
  • Experience working with Genesys, Phone box application and Vx (software and Hardware), Axai network and the desk, Iona (streaming services: hardware and software is advantageous.
  • Outside broadcast (Comrex, ISDN) experience required.
