Job description

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Lecture and assess contact learning and distance learning students in the Higher Certificate in Early Childhood Education, Diploma in Grade R Teaching and BEd (Foundation Phase Teaching) programmes in the following modules:
  • Early Childhood Development
  • Health Education in Early Childhood Development
  • Practical Management of an Early Childhood and Development Center
  • Management in an Early Childhood Development Context
  • Theoretical Perspective in Education

2. Formulate teaching, learning, and assessment materials.
3. Use a learning management system independently and/or work collaboratively to develop and deliver modules effectively.
4. Participate in relevant programme, curriculum and material development.
5. Carry out allocated internal moderation responsibilities.
6. Participate in school-based Teaching Practice assessments.
7. Provide academic support to students.
8. Complete all Quality Assurance requirements related to the modules and programmes.
9. Participate in research and community engagement projects.
10.Ensure prompt and effective communication with students, colleagues, line managers, and other members of management.
11. Ensure administrative efficiency, effectiveness and compliance with all policies and SOPs.
12. Attend, participate and engage in meetings and workshops.
13. Fulfil functions on relevant committees, and in meetings and workshops as reasonably requested by management.
14. Fulfil all reasonably expected administrative functions relating to the position and as requested by the relevant line manager.

Qualification and Minimum Requirements:
  • Minimum Bachelor of Education Honours or equivalent qualification with relevant study in Early Childhood Education and/or Foundation Phase
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience in a tertiary institution.
  • Knowledge and understanding in the relevant phase of Early Childhood Education and/or Foundation Phase.
  • Experience in distance online teaching and learning environments will be an advantage.

 

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Sound teaching and assessment skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational, administration and coordination skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
  • High level of digital literacy with good knowledge of modern Information Technology infrastructure and online learning platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to cope with change.
  • Willingness to work when required on Saturdays.
