Key purpose of the role

To provide safe, reliable, and timely transport services to staff during night-time or outside normal working hours. The role focuses on adhering to scheduled routes, promoting fuel efficiency, and ensuring all passengers are transported to and from work securely and punctually, in alignment with operational requirements and safety standards.

Key performance areas

Driving schedule coordination:
  • Consult weekly on the driving schedule with the managing editor to ensure alignment with staff transport needs
Vehicle safety checks:
  • Conduct regular safety inspections to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy, legally compliant, and ready for operation.
Safe and compliant driving:
  • Drive within legal speed limits and adhere to road rules to ensure the safety of all passengers and avoid incidents

Schedule flexibility:
  • Remain accessible and responsive to last-minute or unexpected changes in the transport roster
Route planning:
  • Follow routes that prioritise efficiency and staff drop-off order, in line with company requirements
Timely and efficient transport:
  • Ensure staff are collected and dropped off punctually with a focus on fuel efficiency and road safety
Reporting:
  • Report any vehicle faults or scheduling concerns to the Managing Editor to support ongoing operations
Minimum required qualification:
  • A valid drivers licence
  • PDP for passenger transport
Qualifications considered advantageous:
  • Advanced driving course advantageous
Minimum years of experience:
  • 2–3 years of professional driving experience
Additional role requirements:
  • Flexible to work variable hours, both on-site and off-site, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
  • Must hold a valid and appropriate driver’s license (Code B or higher, depending on vehicle size).
  • Strong knowledge of the Gauteng region, including main routes, alternative roads, and high-risk or high-crime areas.
  • Methodical, organised, and reliable in executing driving schedules.
  • Must be of sober mind and body at all times when operating a vehicle.
  • Ability to manage rest and sleep effectively to avoid fatigue-related risks.
  • Comfortable working under pressure and responding calmly in unexpected situations.
  • Willing and able to work extended hours and demonstrate commitment beyond basic responsibilities.
  • A collaborative team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and dedication to supporting the EWN team’s operational needs.
  • Maintains a high standard of personal conduct and work ethic.
  • Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
