AFDA is inviting applications for the position of programme coordinator for the postgraduate department: Cape Town Campus Overview An exciting opportunity is available for a committed and experienced professional to lead the Postgraduate Department at AFDA. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping and overseeing the academic and operational aspects of the programme, ensuring excellence in curriculum delivery, student engagement, and industry alignment. The role requires strong leadership, administrative efficiency, and a passion for higher education in the creative arts. Key functions the role can be summarised as follows: Academic leadership - Develop and oversee termly timetables, course guides, lectures, and assessment instruments in conjunction with AFDA counterparts across campuses.
- Implement and review academic frameworks to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with industry and institutional standards.
- Responsible for designing, teaching, and assessing core modules.
- Identify, recruit, and manage part-time and guest lecturers, ensuring academic quality and effective delivery.
- Facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the department.
Programme management - Oversee the day-to-day implementation of the postgraduate programme, including facilities, equipment, and resource management.
- Track student academic progress across all modules, ensuring timely interventions and support mechanisms for at-risk students.
- Coordinate and conduct term assessments, ensuring accurate reporting and quality assurance.
- Develop and oversee internship and work placement opportunities in collaboration with industry partners.
- Maintain strong communication with students across all institutional digital platforms.
Administrative duties - Assist with budget planning, tracking, and reconciliation for departmental needs.
- Oversee payment reconciliations for part-time staff, guest lecturers, and external service providers.
- Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, assessments, and academic progress.
- Coordinate timetables, room bookings, and resource allocation for classes and assessments.
- Prepare and submit departmental reports, including academic performance and operational updates.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies, accreditation requirements, and quality assurance measures.
Institutional engagement - Attend all required staff, peer, and institutional meetings, Institutional functions, festivals, open days, seminars, and events as required
- Contribute to strategic planning and institutional development initiatives.
- Uphold and advance AFDA’s unique pedagogical approach to applied and integrated work-simulated learning.
- Contribute to annual reviews of all academic course content and curriculum requirements, keeping them relevant and updated as per
Institutional criteria. Requirements: - Proven track record of at least 5 years within a Tertiary Institution.
- A relevant postgraduate qualification in Film, Performance, Media, or a related field.
- Experience in curriculum development, academic administration, and programme management.
- Strong industry connections and the ability to integrate professional practice into the learning environment.
- Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A commitment to fostering innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence within the postgraduate space.

Selection criteria - A Master’s degree, a PHD qualification will be advantageous.
- Proven experience in Research, Supervision, Mentorship, & Academic Publication
- At least five years of established experience in lecturing or tutoring at tertiary level
- Experience in the development of course material and other formatted documentation
- IT competency including MS Office / MS Teams / Turn It In / and applicable AI Research applications
