Job description
The Multi Platform Reporter is responsible for gathering, producing and delivering compelling, accurate and engaging news content across all EWN platforms, with a strong emphasis on radio-first storytelling. The role requires the ability to identify strong angles, conduct incisive interviews, and produce high quality scripts, audio clips and live reports that meet the fast-paced demands of broadcast news. The reporter must be able to adapt stories for multiple formats—including radio bulletins, live crossings, digital articles, social content, and video where required—ensuring that EWN’s journalism is authoritative, trusted, and audience focused.
The role demands strong news judgement, the ability to work under pressure, excellent writing and voicing skills, and a commitment to EWN’s editorial values of accuracy, fairness, and integrity
Quality and Accuracy of Reporting:
- Produces accurate, well sourced, balanced news stories with no factual errors, breaches of editorial policy or corrections issued.
- Delivers high quality radio scripts, clips, wraps and live crossings aligned with EWN editorial standards.
Story Delivery and Deadlines:
- Meets all bulletin and digital deadlines consistently, including delivering breaking news updates quickly and reliably.
- Turns stories around within required timeframes for radio, online and social platforms, even under pressure
Multi-Platform Content Production:
- Produces daily content across radio, digital and social channels, including at least one multimedia element (audio/video/social card) when stories require it.
- Adapts the same story for different formats without compromising editorial quality.
Diary Contribution and News Agenda Participation:- Pitches original, relevant and newsworthy story ideas daily, demonstrating strong news judgement.
- Provides consistent updates from the field and contributes proactively to morning and afternoon diary meetings.
Stakeholder and Source Development:
- Maintains and grows a strong, reliable network of contacts that improves EWN’s access, exclusives and story leads.
- Builds constructive relationships with officials, community leaders, experts and PR teams while upholding EWN’s integrity and independence.
Minimum required qualification:Qualifications considered advantageous:- Proven ability to produce and voice radio news stories, including scripts, clips and wraps.
- Experience conducting interviews and doing live radio crossings with clarity, authority and confidence.
- Strong understanding of multi platform content requirements: radio, online, social and multimedia.
- Demonstrated ability to turn complex issues into clear, engaging editorial for radio audiences.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, breaking news environment.
Minimum years of experience:
- 3–5 years in a newsroom environment, with at least 2 years in radio reporting or broadcast journalism.
Additional role requirements:
- Experience producing multi-platform packages that integrate audio, video, text and social elements.
