Job title: Environmental, health and safety (EHS) / waste management officer


Key responsibilities
  • Implement, maintain, and continuously improve the ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system.
  • Assist management in maintaining and improving existing environmental, health, safety, and waste management procedures, objectives, and standards.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor environmental strategies, policies, programmes, and performance indicators aligned with company environmental objectives.
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and submission of environmental, safety, and waste performance reports.
  • Review, implement, and monitor the waste management operational environmental management plan (EMP) and ensure compliance with all EMP commitments.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain the environmental and social management system, including aspects and impacts registers.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, and waste management legislation and regulations.
  • Prepare, manage, and maintain environmental, safety, and compliance documentation, including legal permits, regulatory submissions, compliance files, and waste management records.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, environmental audits, and compliance audits across all waste facilities and operational sites.
  • Identify workplace hazards, implement corrective and preventative actions, and mitigate environmental, health, and safety risks.
  • Oversee waste handling, segregation, transportation, and disposal procedures in line with legal and organizational requirements.
  • Monitor compliance of all staff, contractors, and service providers with company policies, EMP requirements, and legal obligations.
  • Coordinate and lead incident and accident investigations, reporting, and follow-up actions within required timeframes.
  • Facilitate employee environmental, safety, and waste awareness training and toolbox talks.
  • Manage PPE stock, including procurement, issuance, usage monitoring, and record keeping.
  • Monitor and review environmental programmes to ensure execution according to agreed timelines and frequencies.
  • Conduct site visits, facilitate meetings with operational staff, and provide on-site support and guidance.
  • Monitor drive truck inspection checklists, truck maintenance records, and related documentation, including tyre stock sheets.
  • Ensure all compliance and safety file documentation is valid, complete, and up to date.
  • Support tender documents, bid submissions, and compliance-related sections, including environmental and safety requirements.
  • Monitor environmental and safety trends and provide reports and recommendations to management and project teams.


Key requirement:
  • A relevant degree in environmental management, health and safety, waste management, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of environmental management systems, waste management practices, and relevant legislation.
  • Practical experience in ISO 14001 implementation, audits, and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental compliance within waste management operations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Experience in conducting inspections, audits, investigations, and reporting.
  • Strong administrative, documentation, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to train, guide, and engage staff on environmental and safety matters.
  • Career-driven, motivated, adaptable, and open to learning new skills.


NB:// As the role operates within a developing stage and the size of our entity (fairly small), workloads may fluctuate; therefore, a flexible, all-rounder approach is required, with the successful candidate supporting additional administrative and operational tasks as needed (e.g. tender briefings, preparations, invoicing, etc.).
