Job descriptionWe are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Head of Human Resources to join our growing team. The HOD: HR will be responsible for leading and managing the full HR function, ensuring effective coordination, administration, and implementation of HR processes across the organisation. This role will oversee day-to-day HR operations including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, learning and development, and compliance within South Africa’s labour environment.The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to support a diverse, fast-paced media workforce while aligning HR strategy with organisational goals.Key Duties and Responsibilities Strategic HR Leadership- Develop and implement an HR strategy aligned with organisational goals
- Lead annual workforce planning, talent mapping, and skills pipeline processes
- Advise EXCO and senior management on people-related risks and opportunities
- Drive transformation (BEE, EE & Skills Development) and organisational culture initiatives
Policy, Compliance and Governance- Develop, review, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and frameworks
- Ensure compliance with labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, EEA, OHSA, Skills Development Act, UIF, COIDA)
- Oversee training compliance and manage SETA submissions where required
- Ensure accurate employee records, contracts, and files for audit readiness
Talent Acquisition- Lead end-to-end recruitment for all departments
- Build and maintain talent acquisition pipelines and partnerships
- Oversee onboarding, induction programmes, and probation management
- Ensure recruitment processes align with transformation objectives
Employee Relations- Provide guidance and support to managers on employee relations matters
- Oversee disciplinary processes, grievances, investigations, and hearings
- Promote fair, consistent, and legally compliant HR practices
Performance Management- Lead annual and mid-year performance review cycles
- Implement performance improvement plans and provide coaching to managers
- Drive succession planning, career development, and leadership programmes
- Identify training needs and run capacity-building initiatives
Compensation, Benefits and Payroll Oversight- Oversee payroll alignment with HR processes (leave, employee movements, BEE allocations, etc.)
- Support annual budgeting for headcount, salary reviews, and incentive planning
- Benchmark compensation structures to ensure market competitiveness
- Manage employee benefits, wellness programmes, and employee support initiatives
HR Operations and Reporting- Manage HR information systems and ensure accurate data reporting
- Prepare monthly HR reports, dashboards, and insights for EXCO
- Track key HR metrics (turnover, recruitment, leave trends, training hours, etc.)
- Ensure smooth HR administration including contracts, leaves, and personnel files
Minimum Qualifications, Experience:- Bachelor’s degree in human resources/industrial psychology (or equivalent)
- HR certification (SABPP, IPM, or equivalent) advantageous
- 5–8 years HR experience, with at least 3 years in a management or senior HR role
- Experience in media, entertainment, production, or fast-paced environments beneficial
- Strong experience in HR governance, policy development, employee relations, and organisational development
Skills and Knowledge:- Expert knowledge of South African labour legislation (LRA, BCEA, EE Act)
- Media industry understanding of creative workforce dynamics
- HRIS system proficiency (e.g., Sage 300 People)
- Strategic thinking with strong operational execution
- Stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
- Problem-solving and decision-making ability
- High emotional intelligence and conflict-management skills
- Strong reporting, documentation, and organisational skills
- Confidentiality, integrity, and ethical leadership
- B-BBEE compliance knowledge
