We’re on the hunt for a dynamic Head of Content to lead one of the most exciting divisions at Special Effects Media. If you’re equal parts creative director and producer; someone who can spark bold ideas, inspire a team, and still roll up your sleeves to deliver, this role is for you. You’ll be steering a multi-disciplinary team of producers, editors, copywriters, and designers to create content that cuts through the noise, drives digital results, and raises the bar for storytelling.
Purpose statement:The head of ocntent leads SEM’s content division with a dual focus: delivering digitally smart video and creative content that empowers our clients to achieve their goals, and crafting storytelling that truly stands out in an oversaturated digital world. This role nurtures the creative team to consistently push boundaries, producing work that is not only strategic and impactful but also memorable. By balancing executional excellence with creative vision, the head of content ensures the division thrives both commercially and creatively.
Role summary:The head of content leads Special Effects Media’s content division, managing production, post-production, copywriting, and design functions. This role is both hands-on and strategic: you’ll be responsible for executing creative direction, producing projects, and inspiring the team to deliver work that is strategically sharp, creatively innovative, and commercially viable. You’ll balance creative leadership with operational oversight—owning the full content pipeline while ensuring financial performance and client satisfaction.
Main outputs and responsibilities1. Creative leadership and direction- Serve as the creative lead for high-profile projects, setting the vision and tone for treatments, concepts, and campaigns.
- Guide and mentor the team (producer, creative production manager, editors, copywriter, designer) to deliver award-worthy creative.
- Review and sign off on creative outputs, ensuring excellence in storytelling, design, and craft.
- Inspire fresh, innovative thinking to push boundaries of digital and production formats.
2.Production and execution- Oversee the full production pipeline from pre-production to delivery.
- Provide hands-on support in producing, scripting, directing, and reviewing content when needed.
- Ensure seamless integration of creative and logistics across shoots, edits, and design deliverables.
- Collaborate with the producer and creative production manager to manage workflow, resources, and timelines.
3.Business growth and sales- Drive revenue generation for the content division by leading pitches, producing compelling treatments, and securing new work.
- Support SEM’s broader business development efforts by identifying opportunities where content solutions can add value.
- Ensure profitability through smart budgeting, cost control, and internal resource allocation.
4.Team and department management- Lead and nurture the content division team, building a culture of creativity, collaboration, and accountability.
- Partner with operations and finance to set and track departmental KPIs, revenue targets, and profitability metrics.
- Develop training and development initiatives to elevate team skills and creative confidence.
- Collaborate cross-divisionally (digital, creators, influencer marketing) to ensure seamless execution on integrated projects.
Requirements:- Proven experience in content creation across formats: branded content, commercials, digital campaigns, social-first video, and design.
- Strong background in production logistics and creative direction (comfortable leading on set and in post).
- Excellent ability to translate strategy into creative output.
- Skilled at managing and inspiring creative teams in a fast-paced agency environment.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience pitching, winning, and managing profitable projects.
- Exceptional communication, storytelling, and client-facing skills.
