The new hotel joins sister properties Tintswalo Atlantic and Tintswalo Boulders, marking the group’s continued investment in high-end, experience-led hospitality along the Cape Peninsula.

Historic hotel restored as luxury coastal retreat

Following extensive renovation, the property — originally established in 1904 as the Glencairn Southern Right Hotel — has been reimagined as a luxury seaside retreat that blends heritage features with contemporary design.

Once a prominent coastal landmark and gathering place for public figures, the hotel fell into disrepair before being acquired by Tintswalo in 2014. It initially operated as a restaurant while plans for a full restoration were developed.

Today, the property overlooks False Bay and features 12 individually styled guest suites. Interiors were designed by Camlyn Johnston, part of the family-run Tintswalo business, alongside CEO Lisa Goosen and founder Gaye Corbett.

Tintswalo Summer House has already received industry recognition, earning a Scape Gold Key Award for design excellence in hospitality.

Design-led guest experience and personalised suites

Tintswalo Summer House is positioned as a design-led boutique stay, with each suite individually styled and named to reflect its character and colour palette.

Accommodation spans four room categories, with some rooms offering sea views while others overlook the pool deck.

Public spaces combine contemporary design with antique elements, including a swimming pool and sundeck, the Tini Martini Bar, lounge areas, and a breakfast room centred around a water feature.

Restaurant blends coastal and Mediterranean influences

The on-site Summer House Eatery serves lunch and dinner in a relaxed seaside setting, drawing on elements of French bistro-style dining combined with South African influences.

Led by head chef Thando Jaxa, the menu focuses on open-fire cooking and locally sourced ingredients, with dishes including seafood, meats, salads and sharing plates.

A curated wine and cocktail list, overseen by sommelier and joint general manager Jabu Ngwenya, features a range of regional wines, including selections from Lomond Wine Estate.

Local gathering space and coastal destination

The property also includes a sports bar that retains original design elements and serves casual dining options, positioned as a social space for both guests and residents.

Located along Cape Town’s Southern Peninsula, Tintswalo Summer House offers access to nearby beaches, tidal pools and coastal routes leading towards Cape Point, positioning it as both a leisure destination and base for exploring the region.
