The Elephant Lake Hotel by Bon Hotels is a full service hotel with 58 rooms located on the shores of the St Lucia Estuary and nestled in the surrounding iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa’s first Natural World Heritage Site, famous for its large population of hippos, crocodiles and wealth of plant.

Services and facilities include all rooms facing the estuary river, private terraces per room, a large swimming pool, kids entertainment area, on-site security, free guest parking, in-house restaurant catering for room service, tour bookings, conference centre, Wi-Fi and disabled amenities. The hotel also boasts the famous Hippo Steakhouse restaurant which attracts local as well as international visitors to experience a taste sensation of Africa.

A grand garden surrounds the hotel with more than 50 species of flora and a natural walkway from the St Lucia Estuary that serves as a ‘catwalk’ for the celebrity hippo that often strolls through the hotel grounds. Boasting the best viewing deck in St Lucia, guests can witness a true African sunset as the sky is painted with colours of orange and purple.

Offering an abundance of luxury, sights, sounds and adventures, only a mere 50 kilometres from the Nyalazi Gate at the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park, Elephant Lake Hotel by Bon Hotels is ideal for families looking to book a holiday destination to remember on their stay.

For guests looking to stay much longer, St Lucia Lodge by Bon Hotels can be found just a short 100m down the road, featuring 34 rooms and upmarket self-catering facilities.

St Lucia is beholden to the domestic and international leisure market due to its wildlife sanctuary and globally recognised nature icon, the walking hippo. With the initial lack of international business due to the impacts of the coronavirus and ongoing travel restrictions, there is a much-needed uptake required for the domestic leisure market in South Africa. Bon Hotels and its team of experts strive to work incredibly hard to get St Lucia as one of the top spots for South African domestic leisure travellers.

"Previously the area has been noticeably popular among international group markets such as Western Europe, Italy and Spain. Through this acquisition, our goal is to resuscitate those markets to get the business back to our two newest properties and promote further growth for Bon Hotels in the northern regions of Kwa-Zulu Natal," shares Pieter van Eck, group development director.
