Cartoon magazine adverts... opening a world of possibilities?

With advertisers being cautious with their advertising budgets, could cartoon drawn adverts be the answer? Already countries like the USA and the UK seem to be creating cartoon-like adverts, though for them I'm sure it's more of a cool new way to present the product or service and not money problems.

When you look at what you can do with cartoon drawn adverts the possibilites are endless. You can set your background anywhere in the world, or anywhere in a made-up world, have your models doing things that normal human beings can't do... and all of this can be done without leaving the art department of your agency. You can even have the hottest female model, modelling your product and you won't need to pay her thousands for her "talents" as the only place she exists is on paper since she was created by the Art Director.

For years, my age bracket has been amazed by Anime pictures (Robotech etc.) and cartoons with high detail. I mean hell... the 19-29 age bracket was brought up exposed to so many highly detailed cartoons, unlike today's crap South Park "art" work. So actually when you do create cartoon-like drawings you immediately grab the attention of a highly wanted market and also place your product/service as a "cool thing". Depending on how cool your adverts are as well, you could start a "cult" where your target market could start collecting the ads and not just paging through them. You know what that means don't you? Repetitive exposure as your advert could be up on their wall in an apartment where their friends sit and relax.

I've only noticed the odd one or two posters that had cartoon characters and that was for a concert or rave, can't remember exactly. The point is that the cartoon concept hasn't been used big enough in South Africa.

Who knows, there could be cartoon models soon selling your product - it's a way to target that market that is sitting in a comfortable LSM and spending that money you want. Something worth looking into I'd say.
