Kenya: Omtatah wants digital migration reversed
Omtatah said a majority of Kenyans have been denied their fundamental rights as enshrined in the constitution despite Citizen TV, NTV and KTN migration on March 3.
He has sued the Communication Authority of Kenya, the Attorney General, Information Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and Africa Digital Network. He wants the government to switch analogue transmission back on.
Omtatah said the government should have moved TV viewers to the digital platform before analogue switch-off. State counsel Ephantus Njuguna, however, said no Kenyan has been denied information as the migration of broadcasters went hand in hand with viewers.
Njuguna said digital migration discussion has been there for the last eight years and it would be wrong to imply that public participation was carried out on March 13.
High Court judge Isaac Lenaola will rule on July 10.
