To encourage South Africans, particularly the youth, to learn the words of the national anthem, Ligwalagwala FM starts the weekday 6am to 6pm shows with the song.
When asked what motivated this initiative, Rio Mabunda, Ligwalagwala FM station manager, said, "The recent developments in the country regarding national pride and social cohesion have necessitated this directive. As a public broadcaster, it is our key responsibility to encourage this, unless we want to see the country being fragmented further. This is a start to our efforts of making sure South Africans get to know their anthem by heart and identify with all national symbols."
