    Mobile Monday starts Kampala chapter

    Mobile Monday, the global community of mobile industry visionaries, developers and consumers now has a new chapter in Uganda. This follows a decision by various stakeholders in the nation's mobile and ICT sector to form Momokla (Mobile Monday Kampala), the Kampala chapter, on 20 January 2010.

    Momokla is scheduled to be officially launched in March, prior to the opening of the 2010 Digital Africa Summit that will be held in Kampala. The chapter was founded by representatives from Uganda's telecom companies including; Orange Uganda, MTN Uganda, I-telecom, Mara Telecoms, universities, media and ICT sector. The founders agreed to meet on 15 February to inaugurate their first Monday Meeting.

    Speaking at the creation of Momokla, Dr. Madanmohan Rao who is a Knowledge Management consultant in Bangalore who pioneered the formation said, the chapter will bring together stakeholders in the Uganda mobile industry, to discuss new developments in the sector.

    He said the Kampala chapter in partnership with other global partnerships would help to finance mobile start-ups in Uganda by bringing their founders and international venture capitalists together

    This will be the second Mobile Monday in East Africa after Kenya's.
