Web portal for easy access to services launched

KAMPALA: The National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U) has launched a one-stop online centre for Ugandans and other individuals to access government services.

Speaking at the launch of the www.ecitizens.go.ug portal last week, NITA-U executive director James Saaka said the portal simplifies access to online services offered in government ministries, departments and agencies.

This is because it carries all the services on a single portal so whoever is interested, does not have to rummage through individual websites which very often, do not have updated information about the entities.

"This process is going to remove duplication of work and with time, you will be able to make payments online, using credit cards, mobile money or funds transfer from your bank," he said adding that the system will also enable Ugandans to apply for services and monitor progress online.

"Its main objective is to enhance government service delivery for citizens, non-citizens, businesses and to government ministries, departments and agencies," he said.

He explained that services such as eTax, business registration, trading licence registration and social security statements among others which previously required a person to walk into the responsible office, can now be accessed through the portal.
