Uganda: Countdown to 2010 Media Expo and Summit

The 2010 Media Expo and Marketing Summit plans to host East Africa's top media houses including radio stations, TV stations, newspapers, web developers, advertising agencies and marketing practitioners to showcase their latest works and share their expertise.

Inaugurated last year, the event is focused on face-to-face meetings between media providers and users across all types of media and communication industries.

    Preparations underway since May

"Preparations for this year's media expo have been on since May this year. So far, over 40 local firms have already booked space," said David Sempala, CEO of Royalway Media, the event organisers.

The show aims at showcasing competitive capacities and innovation by the players in delivering messages that influence audiences. The event will look to the imminent future and explores in detail what media methods and approaches are likely to shape the development of industry.

In addition to the Media Exhibition, the event will host a marketing strategic summit to be held alongside the expo. This forum will serve as a strategic platform for marketers and communication practitioners to take a closer look at emerging issues in the industry.

    Radical change in the industry

Sempala added that, "Traditional advertising and media markets are experiencing radical change. The advances in digital media entail an increase in the number of advertising channels as well as sweeping shifts in marketing budgets. Interactive advertising channels such as the Internet and SMS broadcast are gaining more importance at the expense of traditional media whose existence depends largely on advertising investments."

The Media Expo and Marketing summit will therefore help to identify the challenges and foster understanding of Uganda's current media environment.

Doreen Kembabazi, the PR officer of WBS TV said, "The Media Expo remains a must attend event for every media player who wants to keep a close relationship with customers."

    Challenges

The media is producing new challenges everyday and are coming in all shapes and sizes; we must strive to keep abreast with new trends, Kembabazi added.

Attendees will learn how to leverage their products to develop engaging integrated and cost effective media plans.
