City of Johannesburg still has a way to go to keep people moving

One of the big changes in South African middle-class life over the last five years has been the huge increase in the amount of time people are spending stuck in traffic. There are many more cars on the roads in all the major centres than there used to be while roads themselves are pretty much the same size.

The City of Johannesburg is now beginning to try to find ways around this, with a plan to close some lanes to cars in Sandton next month. At the same time, there are some pretty simple and cheap common sense ideas that should be tried. And it seems that cycling is slowly becoming more of an option in some areas. More change is on the way.
