Record 15 Promax Awards for DStv

DStv has broken its previous record of Promax international awards by clinching 15 accolades – six Gold, four Silver and five Bronze – at this year's awards event held in New York City last week. The awards are generally regarded as the highest accolades that creative professionals such as entertainment marketers, promoters and designers can achieve.

The organisation behind the Promax awards, Promax/BDA, represents more than 500 television stations and all major broadcast and cable networks in the US, as well as more than 3000 individual members in 70 countries.

Graham Pfuhl, MultiChoice: marketing and sales director, describes the Promax awards as “the pinnacle for any global broadcaster. We are especially pleased that we have won more awards than in previous years, beating our own record and that of any other South African company.”

The South African Marketing team walked away with 13 awards and one award each went to the Sub-Saharan Marketing and M-Mobile Marketing teams.

Pfuhl attributes the excellence of the DStv on-air promos to a tried and tested relationship with the multi-award winning production company Studio Zoo, headed by Cathy Ferrara and Adi Leach.

This year's event, the 52nd annual Promax/BDA Conference, took place over three days in New York City where the keynote was delivered by the former US president, Bill Clinton on the topic “How do we brand the 21st century”. Clinton urged the Promax/BDA contingency to find ways of relieving “this constant pressure to turn three-dimensional people into two-dimensional cartoons”.

Some of the most popular Promax/BDA sessions dealt with issues of particular relevance to today's challenging television landscape, including “green” television, viral marketing, user-generated content and the integration of social networking sites and new media.
