2010 Fifa World Cup Legacy Project to launch in Free State

The Minister of Communications, Yunus Carrim and Deputy Minister of Communications, Stella Tembisa Ndabeni, in partnership with the Department of Basic Education, Telkom, Intel will launch the 2010 Fifa World Cup Legacy Project on the schools e-connectivity in Botshabelo, Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, Free State on the 26 March 2014.

The Department of Communications (DoC) developed a connectivity programme that will ensure the provision of broadband connectivity to 1650 schools as part of the Department's key priorities, about 125 of these are the Dinaledi schools. The Department will inform the public of their role and contribution to education advancement, showcase the capabilities of the end to end solution provided to schools, showcase the partnership between government and the private sector in enabling socio-economic development as well as showcasing the different kinds of technology available for schools connectivity nationally.

Telkom being the main sponsor will be providing the technology at all these schools, Intel will be training the teachers at the selected schools at no costs. The teachers will then become the master trainers responsible for the various schools.

The national launch celebrations will take place via video link at the other 6 provinces namely; Thohoyandou Secondary School (Limpopo), Sifundise Primary School (Mpumalanga), Ratangthuto Secondary School(Northern Cape), Lukhanji Senior School (Eastern Cape), Gillits Primary School (KwaZulu Natal) and Stadt Senior School (North West) .

The media is encouraged to attend at the various locations for the live video link. For Gauteng media the video streaming of the launch will take place at the Telkom National Building Solution Centre (NBSC) in Centurion, Pretoria.
