MTN to investigate bribery claims

MTN is embroiled in a legal battle with Turkcell over bribery allegations and City Press reports that MTN chairman Cyril Ramaphosa has set up a special committee led by retired British Judge Leonard Hoffman to investigate the allegations.

The alleged bribery occurred when Phuthuma Nhleko was chairman of the mobile phone network operator and Irene Charnley was its group executive for the Middle East and North Africa. Both have since left MTN but will probably be called to testify before the committee.
