    Tata planning full production of trucks

    Tata Motors has confirmed that it is keen to start full production of medium-sized commercial vehicles in South Africa but it would have to get the sales volumes up to a sufficiently high level to justify this, reports Business Day.

    Company managing director Karl Peters was addressing guests at the opening of the Tata Motors assembly plant in Rosslyn, north-west of Tshwane. The new plant is in the building that was previously used by Nissan. Tata has invested R110-million in the plant.

    The plant has the capacity to assemble 3 650 trucks a year from the semi-knock-down kits imported into the country from India and is the first assembly plant set up in a foreign country.
