Bands invited to enter Emerging Sounds Challenge

The 16th annual Emerging Sounds Challenge, in conjunction with TOMS Sandton and Openroom Productions got into full swing at Rumours on Saturday, 26 May 2012.

In December one band will play themselves to an ALTO Pro PA system courtesy of TOMS Sandton and the opportunity of recording at Openroom Studios in Johannesburg with award-winning producer Darryl Torr. Music guru Dave Chislet will also sit down with the winning band advising them on how they can draw up a concrete musical plan for 2013.

For the first time bands also have the opportunity of earning monies from playing in this years' Emerging Sounds Challenge and every band performing in the Johannesburg leg of the event also qualifies for a 50% discount on recording packages at Openroom Studios.

Bands performing in this year's event during the Johannesburg leg will get a 50% discount on one of the two recording packages at Openroom Studios.

Constructive feedback

The event is open to all bands irrespective of musical style because bands are judged on their overall performance on the night by a panel of judges. There is no crowd voting. Each band performing in this event will also receive constructive feedback from the judges after each performance.

TOMS Sandton is also supplying the backline comprising MARSHALL (Valve) electric guitar amps, Eden bass amp, Fishman Acoustic Guitar amp and a TAMA drum kit. Over the past 15 years the Emerging Sounds Challenge has created platforms for hundreds of bands including Seether (Saron Gas), the Parlotones, Prime Circle, Freshly Ground, Plush, 1st Project, the Finkelsteins, Pestroy and Taxi Violence to name a few.
