Siemens supports Laboratory Medicine Congress 2011

The Laboratory Medicine Congress (LMC) is currently underway at the Sandton Convention Centre, 31 August to 4 September 2011, with Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics as platinum sponsor of the event.

The congress aims to allow experts in the fields of pathology, medical technology, medical science and blood transfusion services, as well as suppliers of laboratory equipment the opportunity to showcase the latest innovations, technologies, developments and research in the industry.

In its role as platinum sponsor of this year's LMC, Siemens plans to provide more than financial support. David Tshiporo, GM of Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics explains that Siemens is eager to be involved at all levels to ensure that the LMC is a resounding success. As such, Siemens will also be sponsoring the 21st birthday party of the Society for Medical Laboratory Technologists of SA (SMTLSA), one of the hosts of the congress. This will be the SMTLSA's 21st congress, a milestone for the society and medical technology.

Showcasing latest technologies

Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics will also be hosting an exhibition stand where it will showcase the latest technologies in the industry. "For example, we will be displaying the latest in chemistry analysers, the Dimension EXL," says Tshiporo. "This instrument features LOCI technology which adds value to chemistry laboratory testing in terms of turnaround times, sample management and more importantly, minimal maintenance and very friendly," he continues.

Attendance by different levels lab management

"We will also be exhibiting the AutoScan 4 Analyser, which is used by small microbiology labs that perform automated sensitivity and identity procedures. This instrument provides results within five seconds and uses the same technology provided epidemiology reports just like the MicroScan," says Tshiporo.

The LMC will be attended by pathologists, medical technologists, technicians, distributors, scientists, accreditation bodies as well as different levels laboratory management.
