Jump awards recognise best online stores

Kalahari.net has won the overall Best E-Commerce Website Award in the 2009 South African E-Commerce Awards, with Reggie's taking home the top spot for Best Kids and Baby Store. The awards, launched in 2006 by Jump.co.za, are open to all South African online stores and over 50 000 votes were cast, which is more than five times as many as in 2008.

This year's awards were conducted in the same way as last year, by giving the public the first opportunity to nominate their favourite South African online stores in 20 different categories. Jump.co.za then took the list of nominees and published a shortlist giving the public and a panel of judges the opportunity to cast their votes. The votes were split 49% from the public and 51% from the judges, who this year were Matthew Buckland, Eric Edelstein, Amanda Forsythe, Vincent Maher and Justin Stanford.

According to Jaco Roux, MD of Jump.co.za, “These were the most successful awards we have had yet and we are very excited that these awards help the upliftment of e-commerce in South Africa.”

Reggie's emerged as the top kids and baby online store in the country. Reggie's director Issy Zimmerman said the online store had done tremendously well since its launch a year ago. “More and more customers, pressured by time constraints are taking to the convenience of online shopping and it has been growing significantly over the past 12 months.”
