Fynproe: Wine talk for Afrikaners

New Afrikaans wine magazine Fynproe, published by WineLand Publications, will be hitting the shelves in March 2006. The concept for the magazine arose from the growing interest among Afrikaans speakers in wine and the associated lifestyle elements.

Cassie du Plessis, executive editor of Fynproe, says: "Fynproe readers enjoy the good life: eating out, travelling, nature, art and entertainment. They love wine and want to learn more about the subject in a relaxed, informal fashion. Fynproe will tell them how and where to go about it.

"Although the market currently has three magazines which are focused on the same subject, all three are in English. It is no secret that Afrikaans speakers, who have the highest disposable income in the country, are on the forefront these days when it comes to topics such as wine, food, travel and other characteristics of fine living.

"Fynproe aims to provide its readers with the most cutting edge information regarding these topics in an easily accessible writing style coupled with the highest journalistic standards."

According to Du Plessis, Fynproe will not be replacing the magazine WineLand: "Wineland will focus on the more technical aspects of the wine industry, as well as industry issues. Fynproe describes how the product of the industry may best be appreciated, and with what it may be in enjoyed and in which destinations it can be enjoyed."

This lifestyle magazine emanated from the existing Wineland whose readers are already familiar with some of the regular features, such as Nuwe Kelders (New Cellars) and Kos en Doss (Food and Accommodation), which will move across to the new magazine. There are also new additions such as Dorpdinge (Town Talk), which focuses on the dynamics of towns, Dagboek van 'n Garagiste-wynmaker (Diary of a Garagiste winemaker) and Rendezvous Prouz, a take on wine tasting with colourful personalities.

WineLand journalist Maryke Hörstmann is the assistant editor, while Wanda Augustyn will be in charge of special contributions.

The first issue will have an initial circulation of 10 5000 countrywide. For more information visit www.fynproe.co.za
